Husky Bike Tech 2021 - 2023

The CargoDrive Crowdfunding Project

Turn your bike into an electric cargo bike with this all-in-one kit.

This collaborative project was initiated by Redfox Cycles, a custom frame builder in Copenhagen. I was brought on board to develop the solution from an idea to a functioning prototype. Eventually leading to a small crowdfunded handmade batch.

We started with a simple prototype to test geometry and function. This was followed by a second prototype which was used to test the functionality of the fork connection mechanics and the balance of the setup.

We failed at the first crowdfunding round so we looked at how we could produce them in-house and small scale. The final design is what you see here. Functional and simple. 17 pieces were handmade and shipped.

from Prototype to Indiegogo Campaign

crowdfunding attempt #1

We opted for a well trodden path for the crowdfunding in the beginning via Indiegogo.

It was not successful but we learnt a lot from the process and the following design improved as a result.

Consulting to build a cargobike

After our small group at Husky Bike Tech had launched our crowdfunding campaign, we were contacted by a client who wanted to create their own take on a long john with an electric system.

I lead the project from idea from the client until functional prototype. I was aided with frame-building by Redfox Cycles, design work from Philipp Aussem and engineering review by Phanuel Krencker.

During close collaboration with the client, we refined the design to make a functional proof of concept that they still ride today.

My main responsibilities on this project were design management, client communication, component selection, mechanical design, and fabrication.
